Today’s Big Story

A Supreme Shock

An unprecedented leaked document suggests the Supreme Court will attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade

Protestors

The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

Speculation about the motivation of the leaker was everywhere Monday night, with mutually contradictory theories vying on social media. Was it a clerk for a liberal justice seeking to bring public pressure before the decision was final? Did conservatives orchestrate putting it out, seeking to soften the impact of the decision?

The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the draft POLITICO posted, which if verified marks a shocking revelation of the high court’s secretive deliberation process, particularly before a case is formally decided.

The document was labeled a “1st Draft” of the “Opinion of the Court” in a case challenging Mississippi’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks, a case known as Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The court is expected to rule on the case before its term ends in late June or early July.

The document, reportedly authored by Justice Samuel Alito and circulated in February, suggests at least five justices side with Mississippi in its case before the court challenging the landmark 1973 abortion ruling.

Advocacy groups on both sides of the abortion rights debate reacted immediately and accordingly, while demonstrators gathered outside the Supreme Court building late Monday night.

FYI:  The National Network of Abortion Funds, a group of grassroots organizations that help people overcome financial and logical barriers to end pregnancies, said its website crashed last night after the report.

An NFT Downturn?

Non-fungible tokens seem to be finally crashing down to earth

Could the modern gold be rush over? And by that, I mean the mad rush to market, sell and re-sell NFTs for seemingly ridiculous amounts.

Last month, an NFT of Jack Dorsey’s first tweet went on sale for $48 million. As in, nearly 50. Million. Dollars. But it ended with a top bid of just $280. He re-listed it and got offered $6,200.

According to Axios, people are still spending around $50 million per day on non-fungible tokens. But the bad news is that in January that rate was about $100 million per day.

NFTs drove 2021's boom in cryptocurrency. They're the reason people are talking about blockchains again, but—for the second time since the world discovered NFTs—the appetite for jpegs seems to have waned.

Dig Deeper: A combination of generosity and tax-bill sticker shock is driving more wealthy crypto investors to donate bitcoin and NFTs to charities.

Campaign Season Kicks Off

This month, there are primaries in 13 states

The first multi-state contest of the 2022 midterm election season kicks off today, as Ohio voters pick nominees for governor and the U.S. Senate while Indiana voters consider whether their Legislature should become even more conservative.

Voters in 11 other states will also head to the polls in May. This month's primaries and runoffs feature some high-profile names in states that could decide control of Congress, and will serve as a test of the power of former President Donald Trump's endorsements up and down the ballot, reports NPR.

Buckle up, because in the seven months of primary contests before Election Day, Republicans and Democrats will wage internal fights over electability, ideological purity and, in the case of the G.O.P., loyalty to Trump.

On the Democratic side, there are several races across the country pitting progressive candidates against moderates. President Biden also made his first endorsement of this election cycle in Oregon, where centrist Rep. Kurt Schrader is in a primary against a candidate to his left.

See-through shirts for men are everywhere

Lace, mesh, crocheted ... call it what you will, but the breezy effect is the same: Transparent shirts are suddenly cool for guys.

Or as the Wall Street Journal's Jacob Gallagher puts it, “men's fashion has crossed into the leave-nothing-to-the-imagination era.” He says this current crop of skin-revealing shirts speaks to how men (particularly, young men) embrace clothes that were traditionally siloed off in the women's department.

GQ agrees. They say that the sheer shirts are guaranteed to keep the air flowing—and the compliments rolling—all summer long. And in truth, they're not all that different from the camp shirts you already know and love.

Think Jared Leto, Harry Styles or A$AP Rocky. There's no doubt it takes some confidence to pull off. Whether you sport a tank top underneath or not, I think the sheer shirt trend is best worn in the evening. Concerts, cocktail lounges, basically anywhere with mood lighting is a great place to sport the sheer shirt. Then again, it'd certainly work pool-adjacent too.

Not Quite: Our round-up of knit polos come close to suggestive, but aren’t quite see-through.

Shorts Are a Game of Inches

imogene + willie The Camp Short

The camp short,$145 by imogene + willie

For the last few summers, there's been a shorts debate about either going for the 5” or 7” inseam. You can do either, but it feels like shorts are getting longer again, and dare I say ... even cargo shorts and jorts are making a comeback. There are all sorts of other fabrics and fits like camp, tech, linen and hiking—each giving off a certain vibe. No matter the inseam you choose though, remember that fit and fabric are key.
