Beware of Beige Flags

Here's what to know about this new dating terminology sweeping Social Media

beige flags

Dating, especially in the beginning, is all about reading signals. You're probably familiar with the concept of red flags and maybe even heard of green flags when it comes to the dating landscape. Well, now on TikTok—where else?—there's a new trending flag color you may want to know about. We're talking about “beige flags,” which are a sign that means (I'm sorry to report) that you might be considered boring, a bit bland or just plain vanilla. Videos mentioning the term have around 50 million views already, and the term has evolved from when it was first introduced a year ago.Originally coined by TikTok user @itscaito, she explained that a potential beige flag for her is when someone makes references to extremely mainstream sitcoms on their dating profiles. But currently, a beige flag is being defined as something that isn't exactly a dealbreaker in a relationship but is a strange quirk that definitely throws one for a loop.According to Inside Hook, the trending phrase's meaning is continually changing, as is common with these trends. More and more people in relationships are now posting on social media about their partners' beige flags and using it to symbolize a semi-odd, or maybe even annoying, quirks that they chose to look over. Basically, it can be almost anything as we all have different standards when it comes to dating, right? One man's red flag is merely another man's beige flag. Good luck out there!

DeSantis Officially Enters the Race

The Florida governor announced his candidacy for president ... with a glitchy livestream

We knew it was coming, but Ron DeSantis is now officially in the race for president. But his campaign launch on Wednesday—which was held on Twitter Spaces and hosted by owner Elon Musk and tech entrepreneur David Sacks—fizzled like one of Musk's early rocket prototypes. Glitches and crashes ultimately delayed the announcement, losing hundreds of thousands in the virtual audience in the process.Despite the technical problems, the 44-year-old Republican governor of Florida who has championed conservative causes provides Donald Trump the most formidable rival for the Republican nomination. So far, DeSantis has tried to remain above the fray—ignoring Trump's escalating attacks on everything from his record to his personality. Even Fox News called Trump's reaction to the announcement “bizarre and confusing.”So what's on DeSantis' agenda? The Associated Press looked at the laws he's been able to push through for an idea of what he's got planned. The governor says that his “Florida Blueprint” can be a model for reshaping the United States in a starkly conservative mold, especially on social issues. But first, we've got to endure a whole lot of mudslinging.

FYI:

Axios says Elon Musk has displaced Rupert Murdoch and Fox News as the king of conservative media in recent weeks.

The Next Joint Chiefs Chairman Is a Real Badass

If confirmed, History-making Air Force Gen. CQ Brown Jr. will be the nation’s top military officer

Later today, at a White House Rose Garden ceremony, President Biden will nominate General Charles “C.Q.” Brown Jr. to serve as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The position is the nation's highest-ranking military officer, and the chairman is the primary military adviser to the president, as well as to the defense secretary and National Security Council.Brown is currently the Air Force chief of staff. A former Army brat, his grandfather led a segregated Army unit in World War II and his father was an artillery officer and Vietnam War veteran. According to NBC News, Biden saw Brown as the right person for the job because of his work modernizing the U.S. fleet of aircraft and its nuclear arsenal along with his years of experience in shaping U.S. defenses to meet China's rise. He’s been many firsts, including the Air Force’s first Black commander of the Pacific Air Forces, and most recently its first Black chief of staff, making him the first African American to lead any of the military branches. Of course, what Brown is really known for is being a fighter pilot. He got got his callsign, “Swamp Thing,” by ejecting from a burning F-16 fighter jet high above the Florida Everglades and falling into the watery sludge below.

Popocatépetl Volcano in Mexico Erupts

spewing smoke and ash, It's putting millions of Mexicans on alert

Mexico's Popocatépetl volcano rumbled to life again this week—belching out towering clouds of ash that forced 11 cities to cancel school sessions. Located just outside Mexico City, it has been erupting occasionally since 1994, but over the past week it has rumbled every day.The 17,797-foot volcano, known affectionately as “El Popo,” is under constant surveillance by scientists and a network of sensors and cameras. That's because nearly 22 million people could be affected by its violent eruptions.Like Mount Vesuvius in Italy and Mount St. Helens in Washington state, Popocatépetl is a stratovolcano capable of catastrophic, explosive eruptions, the last of which came around the year 800. Thankfully, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told CNN that the intensity has died down and it's emitting less ash ... for now.

FYI:

According to the USGS, there are about 1,350 potentially active volcanoes worldwide, not counting the volcanoes under the oceans.
