The ‘Best’ Jobs in America
Glassdoor’s top jobs of 2022 all pay over $100,000
One of the lasting impacts of the pandemic has to be our relationship to our work. Are you happy with your position? Or are you one of the millions who resigned? Does your job pay enough to make it worth that commute, or the long hours clocked from home?
Job openings are up, while workers continue to quit. The number of vacant jobs hit 10.9 million in December—up from 10.6 million the previous month, the Labor Department said this week. The job openings rate remains steady at 6.8%.
That is to say, the job market is buzzing. And according to new research from Glassdoor, many of the top jobs are offering flexible work arrangements and six-figure salaries.
After analyzing over 100 salary reports and 2,000 gig postings from last year, Glassdoor identified the top jobs of the year. Psychiatrists (rated #22) and psychologists (rated #34) made the list for the first time as demand for mental health services continues to soar amid the ongoing pandemic. But the usual group of tech jobs dominated the rankings, occupying nine out of the top 10 slots.
Enterprise architect, with responsibilities including overseeing the development and coordination of an organization’s technology systems, is the #1 job on the list, followed by full stack engineer and data scientist.
“Nowadays, every company is a tech company,” Daniel Zhao, a senior economist and data scientist at Glassdoor, tells CNBC Make It. “The pandemic has really emphasized the value of data because of how sharp and unpredictable the changes from this crisis have been—more companies are turning to real-time data to understand what’s going on and make decisions.” Shockingly, newsletter editor didn’t make the list. But there’s always next year.

This Winter Storm Is Massive
Flights canceled as states from New Mexico to Vermont brace for fierce winter storm
More than 109 million people are under winter precipitation alerts and over 3.6 million are subject to cold temperature alerts as the U.S. faces another major winter storm after last weekend's New England blizzard.
The mammoth storm began dropping significant snowfall Wednesday and threatened to paralyze parts of the Midwest and South with ice, snow, dangerously cold temperatures and power outages for days.
More than 3,700 flights within, into and out of the U.S. had been canceled as of Wednesday evening, according to flight tracker FlightAware. A number of airlines, including American, United and Delta, issued waivers allowing travelers who may be affected by the storm to rebook their trips at no extra cost.
According to NBC News, the slow moving storm is expected to affect much of the central and Northeastern U.S. through this morning. Temperatures will be between 20 and 40 degrees below average over parts of the Plains and Mississippi Valley while temperatures in the Texas Panhandle are forecast to be in the single digits by Friday. The danger of losing power with this storm is heightened since extremely cold conditions are expected to persist for several days after the ice stops accumulating, the Weather Prediction Center stated.
↦ FYI: In the Dakotas, where the heart of the cold is first entering the U.S., air temperatures may plummet to wind chills of -50°F this morning.

Meet the Commanders
Washignton’s Football team announces new nickname after 18-month rebranding process
Less than 48 hours after the NFL was hit with a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination in the hiring of head coaches across the league, one of the teams named in the lawsuit tried to move on from a difficult past by announcing a new, less-divisive team name.
After playing for two seasons as The Washington Football Team, the franchise said Wednesday they will now go by the Washington Commanders. The name calls to mind the military and, well, strength maybe? The general consesus is that that after all the focus groups, letter-writing campaigns and surveys ... it's not very exciting. But at least it's not a slur.
The Washington Post's Robin Given isn't impressed with the branding either. “The new new brand forgets that football is fun,” she writes. “The crest, which appears on the back of team jackets and the like, is a busy conglomeration of quadrants, historical data, verbiage, stars and concentric circles. It is messy and invites the eyes to roam and squint as one tries to make sense of it all.”
Crystal Echo Hawk, executive director of the nonprofit organization IllumiNative, called Wednesday a “momentous moment” and told ESPN they can “put a horrible chapter to rest. There's still a lot of healing that needs to happen, so I don't think the team's work in regards to reconciliation and healing is over.”

What Does One Do With an NFT?
Swiping through images on a phone or laptop isn’t doing it anymore for owners
Some people are still a bit confused about what you get when you acquire an NFT. Often you get a digital image, you also receive a token or proof of ownership that is held on the blockchain—this makes it easily verifiable by anyone who looks it up. So when it comes time to sell that NFT or take advantage of its real-world perks, owning the official NFT and not just a screenshot has genuine value.
Art collectors and cryptocurrency investors went wild last year buying art that exists only in the digital world. But they're now trying to figure out how to show them off. After all, what's the point in buying art if you can't flex?
According to the Wall Street Journal, those adventurous enough to buy the most cutting-edge digital media are getting just as bold when it comes to displaying the art.
Some are experimenting by projecting images onto blank white canvases. Others are looking to match the “wow” factor of their digital art and installing full LED walls or utilizing the services of companies like Tokenframe, which let collectors upload their NFTs directly to its physical frames.

SeaVees’ new boots are as durable and comfortable as they are stylish
Nothing threatens to ruin your shoes like inclement weather. Snow and slush, followed by rain and mud ... it's a drag. Luckily, the designers at SeaVees must've heard us complaining, because they've just unveiled the brand's first 100% waterproof rainboot.
Equal parts technical and stylish, the pull-on Chelsea boot is made from matte finished waterproof natural rubber. They feature a soft knit lining and woven SeaVees heritage webbing pull tabs on front and back to make it easy to pull them on and off.
