Today’s Big Story

It’s the Final Stretch

Six days unti

Poll workers

It's now less than a week from the night when America could learn the identity of its next president—depending on prolonged mail-in voting counts or possible legal challenges. And it's clear things are getting turned up.

President Trump’s campaign website was briefly taken over by hackers who defaced the site on Tuesday. The site was only hijacked for less than an hour, but the incident came as both campaigns for Trump and Joe Biden (as well as law enforcement and intelligence agencies) have been on high alert for digital interference.

As of this morning, more than 71 million Americans had mailed in their ballots or voted early in person, according to the data compiled by the United States Elections Project. This is already over half of the total votes counted in the 2016 general election. And while early numbers overwhelmingly favored Democrats, the gap has narrowed in several battleground states in recent days.

Which is likely why the candidates aren't slowing down. Trump's final sprint to shore up states he won four years ago led him Tuesday into the epicenter of America's quickening viral surge in Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska. Healthcare workers criticized him for creating a false impression that the pandemic is all but over as it gets worse each day.

Trump, who trails in national opinion polls, once again questioned the integrity of the election on Tuesday, saying it would be “inappropriate” to take extra time to count the tens of millions of ballots cast by mail.

Meanwhile, Biden filled Democrats with a combination of hope and fear by attempting to expand the electoral map in the South. Some had flashbacks to 2016, when Hillary Clinton finished her campaign in Arizona while failing to set foot in Wisconsin. Others said they're encouraged that Biden felt comfortable enough to devote resources to states like Georgia and Texas while pledging to be the unifying force.

FYI:  Newly sworn in Justice Barrett faces a legal motion to recuse herself in election procedures case.

Los Angeles Dodgers Win the World Series

The win ends L.A.'s 32-year title drought

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2020 World Series in Game 6 Tuesday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1.

And while the Dodgers were kings of the National League West for eight straight years and have played in three of the last four World Series, this was the team's first championship since 1988, reports ESPN

Of course, there were no fans in the stands and the pandemic even crept onto the field as third baseman Justin Turner was removed in the eighth inning after testing positive for the coronavirus.

According to the Associated Press, players and coaches wore face masks during the celebration. There was no dogpile on the infield that’s typical of such celebrations, although there were still hugs and high fives.

Dig Deeper: Here's why baseball fans don't rush the field after the World Series anymore.

Green Thumbs and Calm Minds

Houseplant popularity has bloomed during the pandemic

When the COVID-19 pandemic led to millions of Americans staying home, a lot of people didn’t want to shelter in place alone. Some adopted pets. But more started buying plants.

According to Treehugger, People had various reasons for buying greenery. Some did it because now they had more time on their hands; others said garden stores were some of the few places open.

A recent poll found  that gardening helped ease people's stress to a great extent over the past several months. And the science backs it up. Studies have shown that tending to plants is a hobby capable of boosting relaxation, happiness, and attentiveness, studies have shown.

But you know who hasn't seen their stress reduced? The workers at the stores that sell them.

Where Will the New Bond Movie End Up?

Apple and Netflix are exploring a streaming deal

After multiple delays, the upcoming James Bond film was set to premiere next month. But it's clear we're not going to packing theaters any time soon and was further pushed to 2021. So Apple, Netflix and other streaming services are now rumored to be looking into acquiring No Time to Die, reports Variety.

The delays have already cost MGM, the studio behind the film, between $30 million to $50 million. And a new report reveals the loans MGM took out to make the film will cost them $1 million in interest every month until the movie is released.

So it's not surprising that the studio is now considering streaming it. But a big franchise film like this—Daniel Craig's last appearance as Bond—is not going to come cheap. The studio was said to be looking for a deal of roughly $600 million, but the price tag was deemed too rich for the free-spending streaming services.

Another logistical challenge the film faces is that its $250 million budget was offset by product placement deals with Land Rover, Omega and Heineken who would need to be ok with the potential move to a streaming platform.

007 Odds: There's now a list of actors you can bet on to be the next James Bond.
